Wayne Howard Avant

Wayne Howard Avant of Mobile, AL, and formerly of Panama City Beach, FL and Samson, AL passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2020.  He was 87.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2020 in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Samson with Rev. Phillip Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Mr. Avant was born in Coffee County, AL on December 28, 1932, to the late William Early Avant and Ola Mae Wise Avant.  He attended Samson High School, where he excelled on the basketball team. He served in the US Army.  Prior to his retirement, Mr. Avant worked in the textile industry.  He also farmed for many years. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Fred, Welcome, Loicy, Elmer, and Lennie Avant; and four sisters, Lona Belle Wise, Connie Ruth Cosby, Faye Lewis, and Annie King.

He is survived by one son, William Howard Harrell, two granddaughters, Rebecca (Dave) Harris, Rachel (John) Paulichen, three great granddaughters, Madeleine and Olivia Harris, Emma Paulichen: one brother, Alvie (Johnny Faye) Avant of Kinston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
