Sarah Martha Vandegrift

Sarah Martha Vandegrift of Samson passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022.  She was 79. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2022, in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Samson, with Minister Harry O. Adkison, officiating.  Burial will follow at Travelers Rest Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson, directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Vandegrift was born in Samson, AL on April 5, 1942, to the late to the late J.D. Roberson and Etta Viola Hill Roberson.  She was preceded in death by two sons, Vince Jones, and Chris Moore; all six of her sisters, Pearlie Paul, Mable Roberson, Laura Jean Bryant, Mattie Chamblee, Nettie Hudson, and Myrtle Mullins; and all five of her brothers, Junior Roberson, Hearlon Roberson, Jeff Roberson, Jerry Robinson, and Eddie Robinson.  She was the last of her generation.

She is survived by two stepsons, Doug Vandegrift, and David Vandegrift; eleven grandchildren, Kanon Jones, Candace Jones, Blake Moore, Aaron Moore, Caleb Moore, Slade Vandegrift, Dakon Vandegrift, Joni Thompson, Halie Vandegrift, Tyler Vandegrift, and Danielle Moore; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and her caregiver, Linda Norwood.  The family would like to offer a special thank you to First Choice Hospice.
