Katherine Walthall Carter, age 68 died on Friday, August 23, 2013, in Pensacola, Fla. after a lengthy illness. Katherine grew up in Geneva and graduated from Geneva High School in the class of 1963. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Geneva prior to her move to Pensacola. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, William Kenan Carter and Elizabeth Lide Carter.

Katherine is survived by her first cousins, George Lide (Laura), Wallace Lide of Huntsville, AL, Linda Lide Glover (Bob), Newport News, Va., Joel Philip Carter, III (Shawn), Geneva, AL, William Talbot Carter (Jan), Greenville, SC, Mary Carter Daum (Richard), Cary, NC, Carol Schwartz Hazlett (John), Healdsburg, CA and Margaret Schwartz (Adolph), Winnetka, CA. Other close family members are Kathy Whittington, Margaret McClellen, Sarah Carter Oaks of Pensacola and Sue Carter Jefferson, Chipley, FL.

A memorial service for Katherine will be held Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Geneva, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts in Katherine's memory be made to the Emma Knox Kenan Library, 312 South Commerce Street, Geneva, AL 36340 or to the National Cancer Society, www.cancer.org/donate.
