Jonathan David Wheeler of Geneva died suddenly at his home on Friday, August 11, 2023. He was 47. Celebration of Life was held September 10, 2023, at The Crossing Church with Rev. Red Coleman officiating. Donations may be made to the Geneva Rescue Squad, PO Box 37, Geneva, AL 36340 in his memory.
Jonathan was born May 10, 1976, in Geneva, AL to the late Louie Danny “Pete” Wheeler and Karen Hines Wheeler Adkins. Jonathan was a humble man and a Christian. He was the grandson of the late Pastor Dennis and Dot Hines, church builder, church planner of the Churches of Christ in the Southeast. Jonathan was a lifelong resident of Geneva. He attended Geneva High School, Class of 1996. During his working career, he worked at Sony in Dothan, convenience stores, and fast-food restaurants around Geneva. Jonathan loved music and making poster art. He would screen print T-Shirts of his favorite musicians. It was a mass way of communicating. When out and about, people would say “I like that band too!”
Jonathan had begun to travel. Recently, going to Nashville, Birmingham, and Atlanta to see his favorite artist. Jonathan would wear a screen print T-shirt that he had created promoting the artist. This would allow him recognition in the crowd, resulting in a photo with the musician. This year Jonathan flew to Atlanta to see multi-talented artist, Harry Mack in concert. This was his favorite musician. He had a picture made with him that Jonathan framed and placed in his living room.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Louie Edward Wheeler and Julion Spivey Wheeler Hughes; three uncles, Paul Daniel Wheeler, Steve Hughes, Jim Abbott; aunt, Shan Hughes.
He is survived by a brother, Jeremy Wheeler (Ashley) of Geneva; two aunts, Virginia Price, Joyce Wheeler Abbott, two uncles, Terry Mack Hughes, and Travis Wheeler, all of Geneva; and fourteen cousins. Jonathan had a companion for thirteen years, a small dog named Radar. The family wishes to thank Geneva Rescue Squad and Pittman Funeral Home.
