James Larry Johnston of Geneva passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020. He was 73. Due to Covid-19, a private graveside service will be held at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday, November 2, 2020, at 3:00 p.m..
Mr. Johnston was born in Holmes County, FL on August 5, 1947, to the late James Wilmer and Mattie Pearl Cotton Johnston. He was the Class of 1965 Valedictorian at Ponce de Leon High School. He attended Troy University, where he received a degree in Mathematics and Psychology. After serving in the Army National Guard, he added Education to his degree. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a schoolteacher in the Holmes County School District for many years. He had a passion for basketball and spent several years coaching the PDL varsity girls. In his spare time, he loved fishing and hunting at Morrison Springs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Martha Elaine Brown, and his brother, Heyward Lynn Johnston.
He is survived by his daughter, Michele Adcock (Phillip) of Geneva; son, Jason P. Johnston (Julie) of Ponce de Leon, FL; and granddaughter, Mariah.
