Frederick Paul LaMarra

Frederick Paul LaMarra of Geneva passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025, due to a rapid progression of dementia. He was 96.  Mr. LaMarra was owner and photographer of LaMarra's Studio, and along with his wife, Iby, ran the business for well over 30 years.  Born and raised in New Jersey by parents, Pete and Nan LaMarra, with his 5 brothers.

As a teenager he self-taught himself photography and went to an art school in Philadelphia.  In his youth he took wedding photos and had his darkroom in the basement of his parent's house.  Became an Army photographer based in Fort Rucker. That's when he met the love of his life, Iby, on a bus to Dothan, AL. They married on Feb 14, 1953.

He is survived by two daughters, Donna LaMarra Shoaf and Nancy LaMarra.  He was predeceased by wife, Iby; grandson, Jarrett; and all five of his brothers.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at the Vintage Room in Geneva.  Donations may be made to the Geneva High School Scholarship Fund earmarked for the Fred and Iby LaMarra Scholarship at Samson Banking Company c/o Barbara Peak; to the administrative office at GHS c/o Kim Gillespie; or mailed to either place Samson Banking Company, 105 N Commerce St., Geneva, AL 36340 attn Barbara Peak or Geneva High School Scholarship Fund c/o Kim Gillespie, 505 Panthers Drive, Geneva, AL 36340.

Fred, and Iby, loved their life in the close-knit community of Geneva.
