Mrs. Carolyn Owens Russell of Samson passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018. She was 76 years old. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2018, in the Chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Samson with Rev. Elbert Smith, officiating. Burial will follow at New Home Baptist Church Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral on Monday, January 29, 2018.
Mrs. Russell was born in the Fairview Community on January 12, 1942, to the late Albert and Emmer Lee Daughtry. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, working in her yards, going fishing, and taking care of her family. She worked for many years at Samson High School before her retirement, and she enjoyed every minute of her time with the students. They all called her "Granny."
Mrs. Russell is survived by her husband, Alcus Russell; two daughters, Tammy (Jerry) Churchwell and Dana (Paul) Revels all of Samson, AL; two step children, Alice Dowling and Joey Russell both of Dothan, AL; seven grandchildren, Lee (Dana) Churchwell, Luke Churchwell, Trey Powell, Braden Powell, Ben Revels, Andy (Danielle) Revels, all of Samson, AL, and Elizabeth (Wesley) Andrews of Ashford, AL; and seven great grandchildren, Steven and Mary Sparks, Maggie and Gage Revels, all of Samson, AL, Joycelyn, Trip, and Cash Andrews, all of Ashford, AL. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Edward Owens; her parents; and her sister, Gertrude Phillips.
