Buck Commander of Westville, FL passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023, after a brief illness. He was 84. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2023, in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Geneva, AL with Rev. Cliff Foster, officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Head Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva, directing. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Mr. Commander was born in Holmes Co., FL on September 9, 1938, to the late JD Commander and Julia Commander. Prior to his retirement, he worked as an associate professor at Pensacola Junior College for thirty years. He served as an officer in the Florida Army National Guard for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Driggers Commander; grandchildren Gracie and Dylan Palkowetz; and seven of his siblings.
He is survived by two daughters, Cathy Ann (Andrew) Sumner of Westville, FL, and Carol Dianne (Bruno) Bruni of Pensacola, FL; five grandchildren Jonathan Sumner, Jacob Sumner, Jordan Sumner of Westville, Florida; Jacob Palkowetz and Landen Palkowetz, Pensacola, Florida; and two brothers, Bruce Commander (Evelyn) of Westville, and Coleman Commander (Pauline) of Pensacola.
