Billy Stanford Obituary

Billy Lomax Stanford, 84, of Geneva, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021, at his daughter’s home in Kiln, MS, surrounded by his family, after a short illness.

He was born September 9, 1936, to A.J. and Effie D. Stanford, in Dale County.  A 1955 graduate of Geneva High School, Billy joined the Alabama National Guard before graduating from high school, and served 36 years.  He retired as a 1st Sergeant.  He also began working at Ft Rucker after high school graduation, retiring after 36 years there.

On October 21, 1960, he married the love of his life, Linda Miller, of Bonifay.  They enjoyed 59 years of marriage before her death in 2019. 

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Margaret Howell, and his brother, Curtis Stanford.

Survivors include his daughters, Vicki Bess of Kiln, MS, and Anji (Doug) Rhodes of Bay St. Louis, MS; grandsons Riley (Lacie) King and Beau (Jessica Favre) both of Diamondhead; grandchildren Avie James, Cohen, Reid, and Riley; mother-in-Law, Lurie Miller of Bonifay; nephew Jimmy Searcy of Tallahassee, Fl; niece Ann (Jimmy) Pepper of Dothan; great-nieces and great-nephews Kevin (Heidi) Searcy, Dothan, Jennifer (Scott) Kennedy, Dothan, Amanda Dal Santo of Tallahassee, Tripp Pepper of Batesville, MS, and Ashley Brock of Dothan, plus numerous cousins, other relatives, and many friends.

Services will be Saturday, February 20, at 11 AM, at the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home.  Visitation will be at 10 AM.  Burial will be in the Black Cemetery.
