Betty Pope Thurlow of Chancellor passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. She was 89. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2022, in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Greg Lay, officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowlawn Memorial Park with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva, directing. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Monday, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Mrs. Thurlow was born in Chancellor on July 24, 1932, to the late William Matthew Pope and Clifford Mavis Jones Pope. She was a lifetime member of Sardis United Methodist Church. Prior to her retirement, she was worked in Civil Service for many years. Mrs. Thurlow got the opportunity to see the world as her late husband served in the US Air Force. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, Maj (R) Edward Patrick “Pat” Thurlow, Jr.
She is survived by three daughters, Patsy Chalker (David), Nancy Vallor (Ray), both of Enterprise, and Kelly Donley (Rich) of Merritt Island, FL; seven grandchildren, Scott Chalker (Natasha), Mandy Millsap (Josh), Wade Spivey, Adra Johnson (Mark), Nikki Rowe (Tyler), Brent Vallor (Jeanne), and Skylar Lacouture; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was devoted to God, her church, her community, and her family.
