Alvie Lamar Avant, of Indian Spring Village, Alabama, and long-time resident of Kinston, Alabama passed away on February 9, 2021. He was 92 years old.  A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, February 13th, at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Samson, with Rev. Donald Gainey and Rev. James T. Davis officiating, with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson, directing.  In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to First Free Will Baptist Church of Samson, the Alabama Kidney Foundation, or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Alvie was born in Coffee County on August 16, 1928, to the late William Early Avant and Ola Mae Wise.  He graduated from Samson High School, where he was a member of the basketball team.  Mr.  Avant was an electrician by trade, but farming was his passion.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening and he never missed the opportunity to watch an Alabama football game.   However, he was most happy when he was surrounded by family and friends.  He had a true love of people and a heart for others.  Alvie was also a man of strong faith and was a lifetime member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Samson.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Fred, Welcome, Loicy, Elmer, Lennie Avant, and Wayne Avant; and four sisters, Lona Belle Wise, Connie Ruth Cosby, Faye Lewis, and Annie King.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Johnnie Faye Avant; one daughter, Melissa Avant Ohnich, son-in-law, Robert E. Ohnich, Jr.; one grandson, Robert E. Ohnich, III (Trey); and numerous nieces and nephews.
