Mattie Erlene Richards of Eden, GA and formerly of Samson, AL passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018, following an extended illness. She was 89. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2018, in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Samson, AL with Rev. Jimmy Eddins, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Mrs. Richards was born in Geneva County, AL on August 15, 1928, to the late Edwin P. and Nancy Louiza Farris Lee. Prior to her retirement, she was a medical clerk for Civil Service in Ft. Rucker for thirty years. In her pastime, she enjoyed crocheting and working in her yards. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glynn William Richards, Sr.; an infant son; and all eight of her siblings, Minnie Bell, Mary Francis, Juanita, Marlin, Taft, Eugene, Jack, and Eula Mae. She was the last of her generation.
She is survived by her son, Glynn William “Buster” Richards, Jr. (Margaret Edwards) of Eden, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her sitters, Patty, Wendy, Debbie, Tracy, Emily, Jenna, and Patricia; and to all of the caregivers at Arcadia Hospice.
