Ellen Nichols Whaley

Mrs. Ellen Nichols Whaley, age 87, of Chancellor, AL died January 10, 2019, at Wiregrass Hospital in Geneva, Alabama of heart failure.  Ellen who was our family’s solid rock and our hero gained Her Heavenly wings. If you had the honor to know our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great-Great Grandmother you would have surely loved her.  Her smile greeted everyone she met with grace, warmth, and beauty.  Our family is completely heartbroken for ourselves but rejoice knowing that she has been made whole again. 

Visitation will be at Pittman Funeral Home held Sunday, January 13, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. for one hour followed by graveside funeral service at the Providence Methodist Church cemetery on Hwy 85 with the Pastors David Bradshaw and Hubert McWaters officiating and Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing.

She is survived by her children Stanley and Judy Nichols of Chancellor, Al; and Shirley Nichols Ward of Marietta, Ga; and her beloved sister Ethel Thornton, Coffee Springs, AL.  She was blessed with six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren who gave her enormous joy.  Ellen's grandchildren are Tim (Kecia) Forehand, Geneva, Al; Greg (Kate) Forehand, Charlotte, NC; Sonya (Bernie) Partridge, Chancellor, Al; Rusty (Leona) Adams, DeFuniak Springs, Fl; Steve (Kim) Sasser, Kennesaw, Ga; and Dennis (Karen) Sasser, Dallas, Ga; and two stepchildren.

Ellen was preceded in death by her husband and father of her three children, Russell Nichols; and her second husband, Hubert Whaley; her daughter Cathy Forehand Adams; her parents Exie Williams and Lillie Brannon Williams; and sister Edna Card.  Numerous other survivors include beloved sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nephews, and nieces.  Ellen was a talented pianist and singer and served as pianist at several churches through the years as well as singing in quartets and other special music.  She worked in Van Heusen shirt factory in early years and later was Coffee Springs Senior Citizens Manager.  Her family was her life and she will be greatly missed but never forgotten.  The family will be at Ellen's residence in Chancellor.  Family contact number is 334-464-8611.
